About
Why "Tartan"
A tartan is a pattern with rules: every thread counted, every crossing deliberate, the whole stronger than any strand. It's also the name Carnegie Mellon gives its own — and that's where we come from.
Enterprise roots, startup instincts
Tartan Cyber was founded by Carnegie Mellon University alumni who spent their careers securing and engineering systems where failure wasn't an option — large-scale enterprise environments, regulated industries, and real-time systems where milliseconds and integrity both mattered.
We started this firm because startups deserve that same caliber of engineering, delivered at a pace and price that make sense before the Series B. Founders shouldn't have to choose between moving fast and being defensible; a well-designed program gives you both.
How we work
We're consultative, candid, and allergic to fear-selling. You'll get a clear picture of your real risk, a prioritized plan, and honest advice about what to fix now, what can wait, and what you can safely ignore. When we recommend something, we can show our reasoning — and we'll say so plainly when the cheapest fix is the right one.
The family
Tartan Cyber is a sister brand of CyberMint, a technology consultancy serving small and mid-market organizations. Same enterprise discipline, two focused practices: CyberMint for established businesses, Tartan Cyber for startups, founders, and companies in growth mode.
Tartan Cyber is an independent firm. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Carnegie Mellon University.
